This year we are supporting Diabetes UK. There are currently 4 million people in the UK living with diabetes, including an estimated 549,000 people who have Type 2 diabetes but do not know it. That is 1 in 16 people, and this figure is rising. A further 11.5 million people in the UK are at increased risk of getting Type 2 diabetes in the near future.
Every 3 minutes somebody is told they have diabetes in the UK. Diabetes is the biggest public health issue of our time accounting for 10% of the NHS budget, that's 1 million every hour spent on treating diabetes and its complications. Diabetes UK is the leading diabetes charity in the UK and they are there for everyone living with diabetes, their families, friends and carers.
The main fundraising event we hold is a charity auction and raffle at the gala dinner at our National Conference.
